How do I know if I need counseling?
Counseling can be very helpful to those that are in distress. Counseling is not right for everyone, and the relationship that you have with your counselor is very important. We at Prairie Wellness first focus on understanding what has caused someone to seek counseling and then collaborate with the client on what path is best for them.
Isn't counseling just talking to someone?
Although counseling is talking, its much different from talking to someone who already has a perspective on your life. A counselor can provide an objectivity not often yielded by those who are untrained. Our counselors have had years training and experience that can be useful in bringing light to various issues. There have been studies concluding that some types of therapy can continue to have positive influences, even after the client has stopped seeing the counselor.
What about confidentiality?
Your confidentiality is of the utmost concern to us at Prairie Wellness. Your identity and information shared in sessions is kept secure. However, there are times when a person's safety supersedes the confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is waived in the event that there is a threat of bodily harm to self or others, and any suspected child abuse or exploitation or elder abuse or exploitation. In addition, court orders and written consent will waive the confidentiality agreement. All of this is reviewed during your first session.
